Naturally 4 Paws: The Silverdale Pet Store Born From One Family’s Heartbreak and a Promise to Do Better
Some businesses are built on opportunity. Others are built on something more personal, a loss, a lesson, and a determination that what happened to you will not happen to someone else. Naturally 4 Paws, Kitsap County’s only holistic pet supply store, was built on exactly that foundation.
A Dog Named Goephyr Changed Everything
Tim Hall and his wife were Seabeck residents who, like most pet owners, fed their animals what was readily available at mainstream stores. When their dog Goephyr became seriously ill, they began looking more carefully at what was actually in his food, and what they found shocked them. The ingredients were artificial, heavily processed, and cooked at temperatures that destroyed most of their nutritional value. They could not prove that Goephyr’s food had caused his illness, but the evidence was damning enough that they made a vow: no future pet in their care, or in their community’s care, would be subjected to that standard of nutrition if they could help it.
In June 2006, they opened Naturally 4 Paws in Silverdale, not as a retail opportunity, but as a correction. They were tired of long road trips to find quality products for their three dogs Rascal, Rusty, and Rowdy. So they built the store their community needed.
What Naturally 4 Paws Became
Nearly two decades later, Naturally 4 Paws has grown into something significantly more than a pet supply store. The Silverdale location at 2779 NW Myhre Road is Kitsap County’s only provider of holistic pet food and treats, canine training, massage therapy, and a natural full-service grooming salon, all under one roof. The Poulsbo location, opened in June 2019, focuses on fresh and raw products in a boutique environment, with an in-store kitchen producing fresh jerky, bone broth, and cookies from locally sourced ingredients.
In February 2017, the business took another significant step, acquiring a wholesale pet bakery in Marysville, Washington, and relocating it to Silverdale to create Paws Gourmet Bakery, their own private label treat line. Today, Paws Gourmet produces whimsical decorated treats and wholesome bulk cookies baked in-house, designed to be the freshest and healthiest pet treats available in the county.
An Education-First Approach to Pet Nutrition
What consistently separates Naturally 4 Paws from chain pet stores is the depth of knowledge the staff brings to every conversation. Customers are not handed a bag and a receipt.
