Bremerton has long held a reputation as one of the more arts-forward communities on the Kitsap Peninsula, home to murals, galleries, First Friday Art Walks, and a creative culture that punches above the city’s size. What it lacked, until recently, was something surprisingly fundamental: a locally owned art supply store that actually served that community. Spread Supplies, opened by Reama Bubblez on North Callow Avenue in Charleston District, changed that, and did it in a way that no chain craft store ever could.
A Store Built Around a Philosophy, Not Just a Product
Spread Supplies describes itself as intentional about connecting creatives to tools and resources that help them reduce, reuse, and reimagine art materials. That three-word mission shapes everything about how the store operates. Alongside new supplies, Spread carries used and donated art materials, canvases, paints, brushes, papers, and tools, sold at affordable prices that make art accessible to beginners, students, and working artists who can’t justify the markup at a big-box craft chain.
The store actively accepts donations of new or gently used art supplies from the community, which customers can drop off during business hours or arrange for pickup. That donation model creates a circular economy within Bremerton’s creative community: one artist’s surplus becomes another’s starting point, and nothing ends up in a landfill that still has creative life left in it.
The Gap Spread Supplies Filled
When Spread Supplies opened, one customer wrote that it was “just what Bremerton needed,” noting that it was “really surprising to have a lack of locally owned art supply stores” in a city with such a strong arts community. That first-day response, a grand opening that drew an immediate crowd of local artists, validated what Reama had recognized before she opened the doors: Kitsap’s creative community was large, active, and entirely underserved by local retail. Yelp
Another reviewer summed up the experience simply: “The owner, Reama, is passionate about art and reducing waste, which makes each trip to the store exciting and memorable.” Yelp
A Hub for Kitsap’s Creative Community
Spread Supplies has grown into more than a retail space, it has become an active node in Bremerton’s arts calendar. The store participates in the monthly First Friday Art Walk, a long-running Bremerton tradition that draws residents and visitors through downtown galleries, studios, and creative businesses on the first Friday of every month.
It is also part of the newly launched Callow Nights, a third-Friday monthly event in Charleston District designed to highlight the neighborhood’s unique character and creative history with a different energy than the art walk. For artists, makers, and anyone curious about what Bremerton’s creative scene actually looks like on the ground, Spread Supplies is one of the more reliable entry points.
Part of Charleston District’s Creative Identity
Spread Supplies sits on North Callow Avenue, steps from Typewriter Fever and within walking distance of the growing cluster of independent businesses that have made Charleston District one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Kitsap County. As we’ve covered in our features on Typewriter Fever, Little Bee Home, and Vulca’s Mediterranean Market, this stretch of Bremerton has quietly become one of the county’s most compelling destinations for locally owned, independently run businesses.
